We have no snakes in Newfoundland so seeing snakes on the mainland is always a delight.

Snake
Snake, looped in a sun stippled double helix, rests on a bed of parched leaves
As loons plunge a glittered lake, the bed empties
Barren nest creaks the snake's lithe absence
