Monday's Poem

Coat of Green

I wanted to touch the darkness
inside myself. Something closed
around me, like sleep. I reclined
upon a bed of shadows.

The morning came from sleep
And dreamed me into being

The morning came from sleep
Soft hands and my mother's breast

Dreamed me into being
The morning came from sleep

*

Soft hands and my mother's breast
Formed a coat of leaves

The morning came from sleep
Around my naked body

Around me like sleep
The morning came to dream me

*

My mother's last breath
Around me something closed

Around me something closed
A bed of shadows dreaming

A bed of shadows huddled
And dreamed me into being
