Monday's Poem

Mark Tworow graduated from Alberta College of Art in 1991 and moved to Smithers, a small town in northern British Columbia. He has managed the independent bookstore Interior Stationery and Books for 16 years, and somehow manages to find time to paint, write poetry, and raise two growing boys, of course with loads of encouragement and support from his wife Regina.

Raven

On a grey October morning
in the Safeway parking lot
I see the Raven.

He's embarrassed to see me,
won't look me in the eye,
and shuffles apologetically away.

I wonder how he knows.

Later over drinks
he explains
the story's written on my coat
for any bird to see
and I tell him
to take his wise bird routine
somewhere else.
