"seven minutes to the next mcdonald's" was published in Sit You Waiting (Caitlin Press).

seven minutes to the next mcdonald’s
or
welcome to pot roast country

         men
remind her of
greyhound
            buses
blunt nosed
dank-eyed
smoky

shuddering

into      hopeful
small town depots
Keremeos or Hedley
for a quick       bite

twenty minutes
            maybe thirty
then     only
            the tattoo image
of those narrow
                   haunches
flanking
the get-away

gearing up to
the motion
         of pulling out
                 of town
