Monday's Poem

© 2014 by Barbara Curry Mulcahy

Born in Trinidad and raised in India, Greece, the USA, and Israel, Barbara Curry Mulcahy lived in northern Alberta for most of her adult life. She moved to BC in 2012. Her book of poetry The Man with the Dancing Monkey (Wolsak and Wynn, 1997) was shortlisted for the Pat Lowther and Gerald Lampert awards.

“You have the cold-hearted intellectual eagle,
the falcon, remote, dispassionate
until confronted with the insight of a mouse;
you have the compulsive woodpecker, the good-hearted chickadee;
you have a whole ecology of personalities
and for what?’ the owl asks.

“The raven is blessed. He can both enjoy the world
and live in it.”
