Svetlana Ischenko immigrated to Canada in 2001 from Mykolaiv,
Ukraine. She published two books in Ukraine, Chorales of Heaven
and Earth (Vyr Publishing House, Kyiv, 1995), and B-Sharp
(Mozhlivosti of Kimmeria Publishers, Mykolaiv, 1998). Several of her
poems were included in Beginnings (Smoloskip Publishers, Kyiv,
2000), an anthology of the new generation of young Ukrainian poets.
Since moving to Canada, she has begun writing in English in addition
to Ukrainian. Her poetry has appeared in The Antigonish Review
and Event, and in the anthologies Che’ Wách
Choe ~ Let the Delirium Begin (Leaf Press, 2002) and From This
New World (Ten Dollar Words Publishing, 2003). She won second prize
in the Burnaby Writers’ Society Poetry Contest, 2003. | |||||
